CANNABIS AND ROAD SAFETY: "1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
There is no doubt that cannabis, smoked or taken by mouth produces a dose-related deficit in tests of performance skills as conducted in a laboratory.
Using driving simulators and on-road real vehicles, cannabis has been shown to affect driving performance. However, the effects are less severe than would be anticipated from the evidence obtained from the laboratory studies of individual tests of skills performance.
A description is given of epidemiological studies to determine the role of cannabis in road crashes. The pharmacological problems associated with these studies are described. The results of studies within the last 10 years have failed to present clear evidence for a role of cannabis in road crashes. The role of alcohol in all studies has proved to be dominant."

I am an activist for marijuana law reform. Some think automatically that this makes me a criminal by association. That is just one of many warped views out there today. My goal is to educate the public on a grass roots level and to hopefully get a conversation going in the right direction with South Carolina legislature about reforming the marijuana laws for SC. This is step one. Disclaimer: In no way does this blog or myself advocate breaking the law.

Although THC produces most of its pharmacological actions through the activation of CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors, the role these receptors play in reducing the variety of opioid withdrawal symptoms remains unknown."

"Marijuana is Here to Stay" by Lester Grinspoon M.D.
"Marijuana is Here to Stay" by Lester Grinspoon M.D.: "In 1967, because of my concern about the rapidly growing use of “the dangerous drug marijuana”, I began my studies of the scientific and medical literature with the goal of providing a reasonably objective summary of the data which underlay its prohibition. Much to my surprise, despite my training in medicine and science, I found no credible scientific basis for the justification of the prohibition. The assertion that it is a very toxic drug is based on old and new myths. In fact, one of the many exceptional features of this drug is its remarkably limited toxicity. Compared to aspirin, which people are free to purchase and use without the advice or prescription of a physician, cannabis is much safer: there are well over 1000 deaths annually from aspirin in this country alone, whereas there has never been a death anywhere from marijuana. In fact, when cannabis regains its place in the US Pharmacopeia, a status it lost after the passage of the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937, it will be seen as one of the safest drugs in that compendium. Moreover, it will eventually be hailed as a "wonder drug" just as penicillin was in the 1940s"

Mexico Drug War Update | StoptheDrugWar.org
Mexico Drug War Update | StoptheDrugWar.org: "Mexican drug trafficking organizations make billions each year smuggling drugs into the United States, profiting enormously from the prohibitionist drug policies of the US government. Since Mexican president Felipe Calderon took office in December 2006 and called the armed forces into the fight against the so-called cartels, prohibition-related violence has killed around 40,000 people, including more than 15,000 last year. The increasing militarization of the drug war and the arrest or killing of dozens of high-profile drug traffickers have failed to stem the flow of drugs -- or the violence -- whatsoever. The Merida initiative, which provides $1.4 billion over three years for the US to assist the Mexican government with training, equipment and intelligence, has so far failed to make a difference. Here are a few of the latest developments in Mexico's drug war:"

Little Black Book Offers a One-Stop Cannabis Introduction | 4EvergreenGroup: "So with all that knowledge under his belt, it seems to be about time the 51-year-old Seattleite (originally hailing from Alabama) authored a full-length work. Enter his 144-page project, The Little Black Book of Marijuana. Elliott lays out his goals for the book, “your compact guide to the world of cannabis” as he calls it, and its middle-ground aim in the Preface:
Cannabis has inspired moralistic crusades against its use, yet its use is considered a sacrament by some religious groups. It has been called both “weed of wisdom” and brain destroyer. The truth probably lies somewhere between the extremes. In any event, the cannabis subculture has flowered in unique ways. Let this little book serve as an introduction. "

But it somehow spared more than 9,000 marijuana plants in a remote area of Bandelier National Monument.
Officials said no arrests have been made in the sophisticated growing operation in the park’s backcountry. But authorities said Friday they were looking for at least two suspects. They estimate the plants were 6 to 10 feet tall had a street value of around $10 million.
“It was a lot larger than we anticipated,” park Superintendent Jason Lott said. “It (was) much bigger and more sophisticated than we ever expected.”"

Hemp Is Serious Business | Cannabis Culture Magazine
Hemp Is Serious Business | Cannabis Culture Magazine: "Hemp is fast becoming a staple of daytime TV as Oprah, Dr. Oz and others extol the health virtues of hemp oil, protein powders and pasta.
At the same time, industrial interests tout it as a potential base for products ranging from textiles to car parts. As a result, demand is surging in the United States, Germany and Japan.
But American farmers are prohibited from growing hemp. That leaves farmers in Canada – where it’s been a legal crop since 1998 – free to tap the growing U.S. interest in hemp-based products.
First, though, they must navigate the shifting sands of public opinion – or, as one Alberta report called it, “the snicker factor.”"

Secret Tape Surfaces From Fast & Furious Scandal - Guns News and Guns Reviews at Guns.com: "The death of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was one of the tragic consequences of the ATF’s botched sting Operation: Fast & Furious. Agent Terry was shot and killed on December 14, 2010, by members of an infamous Mexican drug cartel in Rio Rico, Arizona. Investigators later determined that two of the weapons found at the crime scene were ‘walked’ into Mexico as part of Operation: Fast & Furious.
However, several days ago CBS News published a secret recording between a lead ATF agent and a gun store owner that suggests a third weapon was found at the crime scene. This of course raises many questions. The least of which is why wasn’t this third gun included in the ballistic reports or the court records? "

A dose-related decrease in the incidence of hepatic adenoma tumors and hepatocellular carcinoma was observed in the mice. Decreased incidences of benign tumors (polyps and adenomas) in other organs (mammary gland, uterus, pituitary, testis, and pancreas) were also noted in the rats. In another study, delta-9-THC, delta-8-THC, and cannabinol were found to inhibit the growth of Lewis lung adenocarcinoma cells in vitro and in vivo .[4] In addition, other tumors have been shown to be sensitive to cannabinoid-induced growth inhibition.[5-8]"

The study in question was an “observational” study examining the effects of cannabis use in patients with Crohn’s disease (CD) and looked at everything from the progression of the disease itself, to the use of medication to control it, the need for some CD patients to undergo surgery, and the likelihood of hospitalization being required either before or after a patient had used marijuana. The Wine Society, Vincent and Gorbing Ltd, world architecture news, architecture jobs: "Super energy-efficient building exceeds client's expectations
In 2007, the Wine Society decided it needed a fourth wine warehouse at its Stevenage site and appointed Vincent and Gorbing to lead its design team. With increasing energy costs a major concern, the Society wanted to avoid the additional burden that a new building would impose on its running costs so the need for an energy-efficient building became a primary feature of the design brief.
Early design meetings with The Wine Society discussed sustainable design and the need to retain a steady-state environment within the new warehouse to reduce energy consumption. Primary considerations were airtightness, thermal mass and high levels of insulation.
The practice became aware of Tradical Hemcrete at the concept stage, while researching alternatives to early suggestions of either in situ or precast concrete as the primary walling element. "
